WHAT IS YOUR MDT’S PURPOSE?
When you’re first creating a team, the idea of the team’s purpose, individually and collectively, is foremost in everyone’s mind.

But when your team is mature, and has been in place for a long time, purpose may not be as prominent in the minds of the members.

Purpose has been defined as “service of something larger than ourselves.” I’m sure I don’t have to tell you that, despite the difficulties and heartaches involved in this work, there is a reward in serving something larger than ourselves.

The folks in the Western region of the CAC world have published an essay entitled Understanding Purpose: A Key to Multidisciplinary Team Development and Leadership.
It’s a thought-provoking and helpful document, and I recommend reading it, sharing it with your MDT members, and perhaps discussing it at a meeting.
