9:30 AM – 12:10 PM
In-person and Live Online Interactive Presentation
Description: This program is meant to both situate pediatric and adolescent gender dysphoria within cultural and medical contexts. In the first half of the program, the presentation aims to discuss the definition, nomenclature, and very brief history of gender dysphoria, as well as basic aspects of medical management. This will include induction of testosterone- and estrogen- medicated puberty and pubertal blockade. The second half of the program is less didactic and meant to situate gender dysphoria within current cultural and media-related contexts, with a focus of how individual positionality impacts perceptions of medically-necessary care.
Dr R Claire Roden is an assistant professor of Pediatrics and the Director of Adolescent Gender and Sexual Health Services at Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. She completed her undergraduate education at Haverford College, where she majored in biology, with a minor in French and a concentration in Africana Studies.
