MEDICAL NEGLECT
A new module from Evidentia Learning
We have added a new module to the MDT Series eLearning Collection on Evidentia Learning:
This new module is designed for CAC staff, MDT members, and other non-medical professionals who may encounter concerns about medical neglect in their work.
Medical neglect can be difficult to recognize and assess. Delays in seeking care, missed appointments, or non-compliance with recommended treatment do not always mean a caregiver is neglectful. At the same time, medical neglect may place a child at significant risk and may also be associated with other concerns, including physical neglect, supervision neglect, or physical abuse.
This module provides practical guidance on how MDT members can better understand medical neglect, recognize potential red flags, and consider the broader context.
Key topics include:
- Why identifying medical neglect matters
- How medical neglect may overlap with other forms of maltreatment
- Barriers that may prevent families from accessing or following through with care
- Why a delay in seeking care is not always neglect
- Religious objections, complementary and alternative medicine, and vaccine refusal.
We encourage you to log in, take the module, and share it with your MDT colleagues.
