DBT-Informed Coping Strategies and Safety Planning for Adolescent Suicidal Ideation and Self-Injurious Behaviors – Coalition Manager

 

Description:

This training provides an overview of suicidal ideation (SI), self-injurious behaviors (SIB), and practical intervention strategies grounded in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Participants will explore the differences between active and passive suicidal ideation, review current statistics and trends, and examine the functions and underlying science of self-injurious behaviors, as well as common warning signs and protective factors. The training will also introduce core DBT concepts, including mindfulness, distress tolerance, and harm reduction approaches, while teaching practical skills to help manage safety concerns. In addition, participants will learn strategies for attending to safety in therapy, differentiating between active and passive safety concerns during assessment, and collaboratively creating effective safety plans. The session will also highlight clinical tools including Behavior Chain Analysis and Skills Implementation Plans through examples and practical application, with additional resources provided to support ongoing clinical work.

Continuing Education Credits will be offered for this event.

Speaker Biography- Julie Morin:

Julie Morin, M.A., LPCC (she/her) earned her M.A. in Clinical Psychology at Argosy University-Twin Cities. She completed her master’s internship at Mental Health Systems, PC where she completed formal DBT training and conducted group skills training, individual DBT, and diagnostic assessments. She has 13 years of experience utilizing DBT in different IOP settings with both adolescents and adults. Julie has also completed multiple formal training courses through Behavior Tech. and PsychWire with Marsha Linehan. She has implemented state certified DBT-A programs within the community and co-developed and implemented a DBT-Anchor Relational (formerly AIR Network) state certified DBT and DBT-A program in the community. She has experience working with complex trauma and dissociative abilities and is a certified practitioner in the application of the Anchor Relational (formerly AIR Network) Model of therapy. Julie is also trained in level 1 and level 2 EMDR and trained in Basic Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART).
