NEW MODULE FROM EVIDENTIA LEARNING
From Evidentia Learning:
We have added a new module to the MDT Series eLearning Collection on Evidentia Learning:
Utilization of Courthouse Dogs
This practical and engaging module explores how comfort animals, particularly trained facility dogs, can help create a calmer, more supportive experience for children navigating forensic, medical, and legal processes.
Children who come to Child Advocacy Centers often feel anxious, frightened, and uncertain about what will happen next. Forensic interviews, medical evaluations, and courtroom testimony can be stressful and overwhelming experiences.
This module highlights how a calm, steady presence can make a meaningful difference.
Through case studies featuring Josiah and other courtroom-trained facility dogs, learners will explore the science, ethics, and practical implementation of facility dogs in child-centered services.
Key topics include:
- How facility dogs can support children during stressful situations
- The role of trained facility dogs in CACs and court settings
- Research on reducing stress and helping children feel more at ease
- Ethical and practical considerations for implementation
- Best practices for using facility dogs in a trauma-informed way
Throughout the module, learners will step into the roles of forensic interviewers, medical providers, legal professionals, and caregivers as they navigate real-world scenarios and challenges.
We encourage you to log in, take the module, and share it with your MDT colleagues.
